The rush that keeps on rushing

The rush that keeps on rushing

Oh my friends, how my body and mind ache. The heat, the heat, oh my god, the heat.

When I look back at our last blog post, I realize that a lot has happened and while it wasn't substantial in a physical sense, I know we've made a lot of progress.

Back in June, we were featured in an article on American Modern (www.amig.com). The article was so beautifully written, I almost cried. I want to keep it forever so I'm posting it here.

Tiny House, Big Dreams

Most people don’t need a commercial driver’s license for a house. Noah and Tabatha Mehl, of Cincinnati, just might. They’re building a tiny house out of a 53-foot semi-trailer.

A rush to the end. Part one?

A rush to the end. Part one?

I had to include a picture of our friend Jordan this week (first picture on the post) because he met us for breakfast last weekend and before he could pay for his check I had guilted him into coming over to help us with the house. [Not really though -- there wasn't much guilting involved because Jordan is such a kind person (and great company!) that he agreed right on the spot, despite the fact that it was hella hot in there.] His job was to help us pull cable which worked well in between the company fires that he was putting out (he's a co worker of Noah's).

Cooling

Cooling

If you'll remember back in April we started on the air conditioner before taking a long detour to sliding glass door land. After we secured the door and ensured that it wouldn't fall out/leak/be broken in to, we were able to get back on track with the major goal of finishing the air conditioner.

Rivets and Keys

Rivets and Keys

This week we focused on finishing the area around the door. We still needed to fill a few holes that were made during the installing of the door, and to do this, Noah ordered a rivet gun. The dogs kept their little heads extended outside the door the entire time, "WHAT'S GOING ON GUYS?"

Installing the Door

Installing the Door

The events of the past two weeks are all squished so tightly in my head I'm having a hard time separating them; must be the heat.

What I know for sure after these last few weeks: if we had started this project in the summer time, I most definitely would have been miserable/useless. These days that reach 80+ degrees are tough and are only tolerable now because we have windows and a BRAND NEW DOOR.

An Exit Strategy

An Exit Strategy

If you've been keeping up with us in person, you've probably asked more than once, "so when do you think you'll be moving in?"

We would smile slyly and tell you that it would be February, which became March and then April.

You would laugh and we'd all silently acknowledge that we had no idea what we were doing.

Well, June is knocking my friends and our lease is up. With much debate, we've decided to go month to month and just r..e..l..a..x and slow it down a bit.

This past weekend we started a big project: the first door.

Things Are Getting Real

Things Are Getting Real

Since our last update on April 17, we've been working on all of the little pieces that will come together to be our air conditioning and electric. This includes creating a secure structure to house the air condenser and coating it with anti rust paint and running conduit. In addition, Noah installed a plug on the outside of the trailer to input energy from the (500 feet) of cable running to the house (seen in this original post).

Furnace Details

Furnace Details

A few posts ago, I wrote about our furnace, which is officially installed and in working condition. After moving the orientation of the front of the furnace a few times, it found it's final resting place with the fire/door view facing our bedroom. We couldn't help ourselves -- we knew we had to take advantage of this 'fireplace' and come up with a solution so that we could see the fire from our bed that would allow us to muffle the (small) noises that the furnace makes.

A few major milestones happened this week and after The Lost Month, we're happy to share pictures and details about what we've accomplished.
