How many hands does it take to install a door?

How many hands does it take to install a door?

Project Above:

With our move rapidly approaching, the last major item on our to-do list was the installation of the second sliding glass door. We called a few friends up (it apparently takes 10 hands to install a door if you count mine, which were documenting). All in all, this was one of the easier aspects of building the house. Everything went in smoothly and life feels a lot different when we don't have to rely on the original doors to come and go.

Special thanks to Brooke, Brad and Bob for coming to help.

Framing in the Second Door

Framing in the Second Door

We spent the month of May kicking our house's ass. The project above:

I sanded off the rust from the steel that had been sitting through the winter and then cut it to fit the width of the house. This was actually a very quick process. This large steel became the foundation for the seconding sliding glass door (for the first one, we used this kind of material to make a frame surrounding the entire door frame).

Storage, Finally!

Storage, Finally!

The evolution of our clothing storage during the construction has been painful -- a fact that I've let be known. I've negotiated, researched and presented my storage ideas to Noah several times. I've explored hiring companies/contractors and friends. It ultimiately came down to something custom made by us.

Legs for the Grey Water to Stand On

Did you konw that the average shower uses 3 gallons of water per minute?
Did you know that one of our goals is to be off grid for up to two weeks?
Did you know that Noah takes saftey and construction very seriously?

(Okay, that last one was a given.)

A Tiny Community

A Tiny Community

When I'm not covered in drywall, paint, saw dust or just dirt, I'm nerding out on new design projects. After we made Lovare Homestead our official new home (I guess it technically becomes official official when we move in a few weeks!), Noah and I both wanted to be included in the business and public side of Lovare. Lovare Homestead is actually a non-profit with a big list of goals, which needed a web presence.

Our New Beginning

Our New Beginning

Ready for some big news? We've decided to join a tiny home community in Ohio!

Let's back up.

Measure, Cut, Screw & Repeat

Measure, Cut, Screw & Repeat

Exicing things are coming for us.

During the past few weeks, we finished the wood paneling and ordered a bunch of stuff (including the new water tank seen above).

An exciting announcement about where we are moving is coming soon!

Smoothing Out the Edges

Smoothing Out the Edges

A lot has happened since January.

We've finished insulation in the rest of the house and started on covering the walls with the wood panels.

Sometime in the last 3 months we installed our sliding bedroom door (it's really been too long since an update!).

The most exciting update has been finishing prepping and priming the bedroom walls. We have some paint samples but I'm not sure we'll make a decision immediately.

It sure will be nice to no longer live in dust.

We're still here!

We're still here!

I've received more than one email asking to see 'final' pictures. I love getting questions and emails so don't get me wrong, but no one panic! We're not finished yet and we're still actively working. For now, enjoy some random photos.

Aside from working on finishing it, we're exploring options to park it. Know of any communities or backyards we can rent? Send us an email.
